🗓️ Comics & Manga 1 | Nov 11 - Dec 16, 2024
Learn the basics of designing your very own comic, including writing a narrative, character design, world building/environment design, and panel layouts! This week has more lessons and theory because we'll be writing, planning, and designing our comics. The lineart, colouring, and panel illustration will happen in Comics & Manga 2. Lesson recordings and assignments for each week will be released on the dates below:

🗓️ Comics & Manga 2 | Jan 13 - Feb 24, 2025
Take your comics to the next level by learning the illustrative techniques needed for drawing a completed comic, including line art, colour theory, perspective, and composition to create an original comic! This week focuses on more application, so it will have more illustration demos and less theory / lessons compared to Comics & Manga 1. Lesson recordings and assignments for each week will be released on the dates below:

Note: Although they are recommended to be taken together, you may choose to attend Comics & Manga 1 and Comics & Manga 2 separately.
If you'd like to attend a single week, you may register for a drop in on that date. Drop ins are also invited to attend the LIVE critique!
🤓 What to Expect in Class
Comics & Manga 1 is more lesson-heavy: all about writing, planning, design theory and style testing. Comics & Manga 2 is more application-heavy: all about putting the plan into action and focusing on completing the illustration. In this 6 week program, you will get:
✍️ 1 assignment each week (released every Friday at 10 am ET) for 5 weeks. Expect to dedicate 3-4 hours per week to complete the video lessons and assignments
🔴 1 LIVE group critique session on the Friday of the 6th week held at 3 - 4pm ET. This session may be extended if there are more registered students, and the recording will be posted.
📥 If you cannot make the live session, you may still submit artwork and questions for feedback and advice from the instructor (roughly 15 minutes per student) as part of the recorded group critique.
💬 Personal feedback, notes and drawovers on your submitted artwork via Google Classroom.

This asynchronous program is suitable for teens and adults looking to explore comics and manga illustration in depth, and ideal for art portfolio preparation! Enjoy flexible learning throughout the week with personal critiques on submitted artwork.
